Wood County sheriff says mix of old, new evidence led to arrest of Brittany McGlone murder suspect
Sheriff Kelly Cole: ‘Everything pointed to the same person’
WOOD COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - A combination of both old and new evidence resulted in a recent arrest for the 2007 murder of Brittany McGlone, according to Wood County Sheriff Kelly Cole.
Chad Carr was arrested last week for capital murder. He remains in the Wood County Jail with bond set at $1 million. McGlone’s sister said Carr was dating the sister of McGlone’s boyfriend at the time.
“Everything pointed to the same person, and to me it was time to make an arrest,” said Sheriff Cole.
Cole said the case has been a priority for him since he took over the sheriff’s office in January 2021. He said he was working as investigator with the sheriff’s office when the murder occurred.
“Because I worked here when that initially happened all those years ago, it’s something that had stuck with me,” he said.
Cole said previous administrations didn’t have frequent contact with the family and he wanted to change that. While they didn’t speak every day, Cole said he maintained contact with family members and started looking back at evidence gathered in the case through the years.
“A lot of good information was already there,” he said. “There was tons of it to be piled through. And it just took us a little time.”
He said in going over both old and new evidence, it all pointed to Carr as the suspect. And while he couldn’t say what it was that gave them enough to finally arrest Carr, he’s confident it’s enough to get a conviction.
“We’re going to see this through to the end,” Cole said to the victim’s family. “This is one step. It was a big step. Brings you a little bit of closure, not complete closure. And we’re going to work towards making sure you get full closure on this.”
