LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - Winter season has arrived and you can find it right inside the Pitser Garrison Convention Center.

Visit Lufkin has been preparing all week alongside multiple city entities to bring “Ice Skating in the Pines.”

“There’s really not a department within the city that hasn’t had some sort of participation to bring this in, said Visit Lufkin Director Tara Hendrix.

Lufkin has had alternative-surface ice-skating rinks in past years opened only for two or three days, but “this is our first genuine ice-skating rink,” said Hendrix.

That means no synthetic ice. The rink measures over 3,000 square feet of solid ice and holds a capacity of 80 participants at a time.

“We have a Zamboni-style machine: it’s called an ice resurfacer, and so they go every 45 minutes and resurface the ice,” said Hendrix.

Seats and tables are set up outside the rink to accommodate visitors and some fun photo opportunities as one walks through the area. Hendrix said tickets include the skates fee. They will also provide helmets and skate aids for younger children. “Everyone is super excited. I hear all the time, ‘We’re bringing out family; we’re bringing the kids out!’” she said.

Prices start at just under $13. You can get tickets online or on location starting today through Jan. 8.
