Some lanes on South Timberland Drive shut down for water leak
From the City of Lufkin
LUFKIN, Texas - The inside lanes and turn lane of South Timberland Drive in front of Shipley’s Donuts will be shut down for most of the day as the City works to repair a 6-inch water main leak.
Crews had to rip up parts of the road to fix the leak.
“They’re having to dig down several layers to get to that piping,” Jessica Pebsworth Communications Director for the City of Lufkin said.
While many parts of East Texas are dealing with issues from the winter storm that hit, it never got cold enough to effect the pipes in Lufkin. They’d dealing with another culprit. Old age.
“Water leaks happen from time to time,” Pebsworth said. “Depending on the age of the particular line of pipe so we do have these issues from time to time.”
The repair will not completely block the road as the outside lanes will be open to keep traffic flowing. Please avoid the area, if possible, but if you must travel that route, expect delays, slow down, and use caution.
Pebsworth also asks for all Lufkin citizens to keep an eye out for any other leaks that might pop up throughout the city.
“We always ask citizens to report any suspicious amount of water they see collecting in their neighborhood or on the road way especially when there doesn’t seem to be an explanation for it,” Pebsworth said.
There may be water outages in the area associated with the repair. We will notify you when the repair is complete.
