The Texas Health and Human Services Commission is providing more than $301.8 million in emergency Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) food benefits for the month of July. The allotments are expected to help about 1.4 million Texas households.
“The goal is always to better reach our community, have a better source of communicating with the community,” Bethanie Mehl said. “The goal is to stay as transparent as possible in times of emergencies. This is going to be one of the best ways to communicate with the whole community.”
“The loss of this building is going to be tragic,” Burns said. “Extremely tragic for the community, the people that go here. We are upset that we could not do more based on the situation when we got here. "
The case stems from four state troopers who accused their sergeant, Robert Shugart, of creating a hostile work environment and giving his troopers an illegal quota system that required them to make a certain number of arrests and traffic stops.
“Some of the most common injuries that we see during the 4th of July holiday celebrations are attributed to firework related accidents, motor vehicle collisions, and injuries involving aquatic activities,” says Salter.
