Nacogdoches Police write 112 tickets over July 4 weekend

NACOGDOCHES, TX (Press release) - The Nacogdoches Police Department just finished another STEP traffic enforcement wave for the July 4th holiday.

Officers work these state and federally funded enforcement waves with the goal of increasing traffic law compliance and decreasing the amount of auto accidents.

During this wave officers issued 112 citations, mostly for speeding.

"We know from previous experience, that the enforcement approach works", Lt. Dan Taravella said. "High visibility works, but sometimes enforcement is the last resort."

Patrol officers also made four arrests during the week for Driving While Intoxicated. Activity at Lake Nacogdoches was very peaceful with no arrests or problems.

"We like holidays like this past July 4th," Taravella said. "No major accidents, no problems at the lake, good DWI enforcement and no alcohol, fireworks or holiday related injuries reported. Making the roads and city safer is what we are trying to do. We just need the public's help to make it happen."

Officers will work their next STEP enforcement wave in August and September during the Labor Day holiday.
