Lufkin man takes 6 years for drug, sex offender registry offenses

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - By Jeff Awtrey - email

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A Lufkin man pleaded guilty Tuesday to a drug possession charge and for being a sex offender and moving without notice.

According to a police report, Daniel Ray McGinty, 24, had registered as a sex offender in Lufkin in February. When his assigned officer checked on him at his registered address in July, in the 300 block of Champions Drive, he learned McGinty had moved to an unknown address.

An investigation revealed a warrant was out for McGinty on a charge of probation revocation and an officer was able to arrest him Wednesday at Pure Energy on the 700 block of South Timberland Drive, where he worked.

McGinty was convicted in 2001, at age 15, for aggravated sexual assault of a nine-year-old girl.

He will serve two concurrent sentences, one for possession of a controlled substance and another for failure to comply as a sex offender.
