Deer-lease confrontation leads to arrest of Huntington man

ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - ANGELINA COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) - A Huntington man was arrested Thursday following the investigation of a confrontation at a hunting lease south of Zavalla in which the complainant said the suspect pointed a gun at him in November.

Roger Dale Stanford, 48, is charged with aggravated assault.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, a man told an Angelina County Sheriff's investigator that he was driving a four-wheeler at his hunting lease and approached an idle pickup to see if it might be having mechanical issues.

The man said as he approached it, Stanford ran from the tree line and jumped into the bed of the truck and yelled obscenities at the man and told him to get the headlights out of his eyes.

The man said Stanford then picked up a shotgun from the back of the truck and aimed it at the man and said, "I am going to kill you [expletive]." The man said he was afraid of being shot and did not say or do anything. The man said his son began approaching the scene and the driver of the pickup drove away.

The affidavit only mentions the man's account as evidence in the case. A call to the Angelina County Sheriff's Office for comment was not immediately returned.
