BEAUMONT, TX (KTRE) - Thousands packed into Ford Park in Beaumont Saturday evening to welcome home and celebrate their hometown girl American Idol contestant, Kree Harrison.

A cheering and chanting crowd ushered Woodville native, Kree Harrison on stage at Ford Park

After a full Saturday of Kree-centered activities, including a press conference, homecoming parade and a Tyler County Rodeo appearance, the country singer thanked East Texas and Woodville for all their support then gave her fans what they came for, a song.

Kree's aunt, Penny Harrison says seeing Kree up on that stage is like a dream come true.

"Oh it's so exciting," said Harrison. "We just can't believe she's made it this far. Though we know she deserves it. She's been trying since she was 8 years old."

Kree's longtime friend, Amanda Boyd says it was one of Kree's goals to make it to the top three and come home to visit East Texas.

"She's been homesick the past 13 years and last night I was able to visit with her some
and she said it feels so good to be home and this has been her absolute favorite experience
as being an American Idol contestant thus far has been coming home,"said Boyd.

Kree indulged her fans with several songs she's performed on American Idol including one of her favorites from Aretha Franklin.

Kree's East Texas fans were with her Saturday as she reached a milestone in her career.

"This is the first time she's performed as the main event on such a big stage. I know she's going to love it," said Boyd. "This is what she was born to do so we're all really excited to see her in her element here at home."

Fans from across Texas and of all ages showed their support by wearing Kree t-shirts and waving handmade posters.

You can catch Kree's whole hometown tour episode this Wednesday on American Idol and don't forget to vote for Woodville native, Kree Harrison, each week.
