Body found in burned car near Toledo Bend Reservoir dam in Newton Co.

NEWTON COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - After firefighters from the Toledo Bend Fire Department put out a car fire in Newton County, they discovered a burned body inside of it early Friday morning.

According to a press release from the Newton County Sheriff's Office, NCSO dispatch was notified at approximately 12:05 a.m. Friday that a body had been found inside a burned vehicle near the Toledo Bend Reservoir dam.

The State Fire Marshal's Office, the Texas Rangers, and other local authorities were called in to assist with the investigation. At this time, the person found in the car has not been identified.

"This case is under investigation and information will be released as it becomes available," the press release stated.
