Lufkin man arrested on 5th DWI charge since 2008 after 1-vehicle accident in La.

VINTON, LA (KTRE) - Troopers with the Louisiana State Police arrested a Lufkin man on his fifth driving while intoxicated charge since 2008 after he allegedly drove off the road near Vinton, La. Tuesday morning and got stuck.

Curtis Shane Steitler, 38, was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center on a felony DWI charge. He was also charged with driving under suspension and careless operation. Collectively, his bail was set at $84,000.

According to a press release, Louisiana State Police troopers responded to a report of a vehicle in the ditch on U.S. 90 about a mile east of Vinton at 8:28 a.m. on Tuesday. Steitler drove off the road and got his vehicle stuck in a ditch, according to the press release.

Steitler was wearing a seat belt, and he was not injured in the accident.

When the state troopers arrived on the scene, Steitler allegedly displayed signs of impairment. The press release also stated that he performed poorly on field sobriety tests, and a toxicology sample was obtained for analysis.

According to the press release, Steitler had been arrested for DWI in Texas four previous times. He was charged with DWI-fourth offense, which is the maximum that Louisiana law allows.
