2 juveniles vandalize Rivercrest fire trucks, building

ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - The Angelina County Sheriff's Office has arrested two juveniles who vandalized the Rivercrest Volunteer Fire Department building and trucks earlier this week.

Fire Chief E.R. Brooks said the boys broke in the night of Oct. 18 and cut all the tires on the two trucks, poured something in the gas tanks, cut gas lines, poured gas in the floorboards in one of the trucks, poured brake fluid in another truck and scattered things from drawers onto the floor.

"They made us all feel bad, all the members of the department," Brooks said. "We were hurt over it because they all work hard for it."

Capt. Alton Lenderman of the sheriff's office said they tried to light the gasoline, using a torch lighter, but there was no flint in the lighter.

Lenderman said his office received a tip about who committed the crime and they pulled him out of Lufkin High School and he confessed to the crime. He also gave up who helped him and they were able to question him after pulling him out of alternative school.

The boys are now being held at the juvenile detention facility, Lenderman said.

"To us they were putting a lot of people's property in danger and lives in danger," Brooks said.
