LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The pesky peacock that officers with the Lufkin animal control have been trailing for two days narrowly avoided escape Wednesday afternoon.

Officers Sarah Mosely and Paula Taylor said they had the peacock cornered with three nets, but it flew up about 30 to 40 feet and flew from tree to tree.

They went to the Brookhollow subdivision Tuesday after the peacock was reported in the area.

Officers have been trying to capture it and locate the owner because the bird is not native to the East Texas habitat.

After it disappeared Monday, the officers returned Tuesday to try to capture it. They said they will return Wednesday evening to try to catch it again.
