DIBOLL, TX (KTRE) - An 18-wheeler hit a Diboll Police Department patrol car on US Highway 59 early Thursday morning. No one was injured in the accident.
A press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety stated the Angelina County DPS office was notified at about 1:48 a.m. Thursday about a wreck involving a Diboll PD patrol car and an 18-wheeler at the intersection of Highway 59 and FM 1818. According to the preliminary accident report, a 1995 Freighliner tractor-trailer rig driven by Larry Eligah Menefee, 60, of Lufkin failed to yield the right of way at the intersection and struck a Diboll PD patrol unit driven by Officer Jacob Ryan Bailey, 29, of Broaddus.
The dash cam video from Officer Jacob Bailey's patrol car shows him traveling down Highway 59 at about 45 mph. It also shows that he had a green light when the 18-wheeler pulled out from a side street and T-boned his patrol car, knocking the officer's vehicle into the concrete median.
Menefee was cited for failure to yield right of way at a stop intersection.
Baker said the unit is in the shop and that it appears to be totaled.
