ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Deputies with the Angelina County Sheriff's Office arrested a 60-year-old man Saturday night in connection to allegations that he attacked his daughter and her boyfriend with a machete after they almost knocked over a television.
Ricky Wayne Boyd, of Lufkin, was arrested and charged with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and a number of warrants from the municipal court. Boyd was released from the Angelina County Jail Monday after he posted a personal recognizance bail amount of $1,500.
Capt. Alton Lenderman with the Angelina County Sheriff's Office said that the alleged assault occurred at Boyd's home in the 600 block of Lone Star at about 6:15 p.m. Saturday. Boyd daughter and her boyfriend got into an argument.
At first, the couple's argument was just verbal, but then they almost knocked over the television, which upset Boyd, Lenderman said. At that point, he allegedly grabbed a machete, came into the room, and started swinging it at his daughter and her boyfriend.
Boyd's daughter tried to block the machete with a flashlight and wound up getting a cut on her hand, Lenderman said. He said the boyfriend got a cut on his leg.
Boyd's daughter was then able to bite him on the hand to get him to drop the machete, Lenderman said. Then Boyd's wife grabbed the machete and hid it, so he couldn't get it back.
Boyd and his daughter, who had an outstanding theft warrant from the Lufkin Police Department, were both arrested at the scene and taken to the Angelina County Jail.
