LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - It will be a win-win for both customers and the Christian Information & Service Center at Whataburger restaurants in Lufkin, Nacogdoches, and Center tonight between 5 and 8 p.m.
Customers who bring in a minimum of two canned goods to each of the stores will get a free Whataburger.
"As a company that serves food daily, hunger awareness is something that is very near and dear to us," said Maci Dover, Whataburger's director of marketing. "We're happy to do what we can to help CISC support our neighbors who are suffering from hunger this holiday season."
The participating Whataburger restaurants include the ones at 102 S. John Redditt Drive in Lufkin, 2617 North Street in Nacogdoches, and 811 Hurst Street in Center.
Along with the CISC fund raiser scheduled for tonight, the Whataburger restaurants will be hosting a community fundraising event on Wednesday, Dec. 16.
"Whataburger customers can show their support by enjoying their favorite menu items, and 20 percent of Whataburger's sales from 5 to 8 p.m. will be located to local food banks," a press release stated.
CISC feeds thousands of Angelina County residents each year, and the organization offers programs like Backpack Buddies and Senior Food Box.
Whataburger, a family-owned chain of restaurants, has been serving hamburgers and other menu items since 1950.
