NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Deputies with the Nacogdoches Sheriff's County Sheriff's Office tracked a 17-year-old Etoile man down in Crockett on Monday and arrested him in connection to allegations that he had sexually assaulted an 8-year-old child.
Leroy Apodaca is still being held at the Nacogdoches County jail on a first-degree felony aggravated sexual assault of a child charge. No bail amount has been set at this time.
According to a press release, deputies with the NCSO opened an investigation into the case after they were notified by staff at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital that an 8-year-old child had made an outcry to family members and was then taken to the hospital on Aug. 13.
After NCSO detectives were called to the scene, they arranged for a forensic interview of the victim at Harold's House that night. During the interview, the investigators got enough information to get an arrest warrant for Apodaca on Monday.
However, they were unable to locate Apodaca when they went to his home in Etoile to serve the warrant. Nacogdoches County sheriff's deputies started tracking Apodaca on Facebook Monday night. Using an alias, deputies were able to make contact with Apodaca and learned that he was in Crockett.
"The suspect told deputies that he knew he was being accused of a crime and was going to flee to Dallas," the press release stated.
The Crockett Police Department was notified that Apodaca was at a family member's home there, and CPD officers served the warrant on Apodaca without incident.
Apodaca was taken to the Houston County Jail, and he was later transferred to the Nacogdoches County Jail.
