LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Officers with the Lufkin Police Department's Street Crimes Unit made three felony drug arrests connected to the distribution of methamphetamine and prescription drugs. They also seized large quantities of drugs, guns, cash, and items typically associated with the distribution of illegal drugs.
Carlos Hazel Vargas, 27, of Lufkin, is still being held in the Angelina County Jail on a first-degree felony manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance charge between 4 and 400 grams, a second-degree felony manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance between 28 and 200 grams charge, a state-jail felony possession of a controlled substance less than 1 gram charge, a state-jail felony theft of a firearm charge, and an ICE hold. Collectively, his bail amount was set at $520,000.
Megan Marie Woodard, 22, of Lufkin, was charged with first-degree felony manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance, manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance between 28 and 200 grams, and a misdemeanor traffic charge. Her collective bail amount was set at $205,000.
Diego Hernandez, 18, of Lufkin, was charged with second-degree felony manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance less than 1 gram, and his collective bail amount was set at $200,500.
According to a press release East Texas News got Tuesday, LPD investigators and the Special Response Team executed a search warrant on a home in the 500 block of Paul Ave. last week.
A search of the home turned up 389 grams of Alprazolam, 37 grams of meth, half a gram of cocaine, two pistols that were reported stolen in Angelina County, a shotgun, an undisclosed amount of cash, baggies, scales, and other "equipment associated with drug trade." Police also seized numerous vehicles at the home, the press release stated.
Vargas and Woodard were both arrested at the scene.
"Vargas' roommate and business partner Diego Hernandez, 18, of Lufkin, was not home at the time of the raid, but was taken into custody on a warrant for delivery of methamphetamine after he pulled back up to the house to see what was going on as investigators finished processing the scene," the press release stated.
