ZAVALLA, TX (KTRE) - A Huntington man accused of driving off with a fireworks stand has turned himself in to authorities.
Joshua Kenneth Byars, 27, is charged with third-degree theft.
According to Zavalla Police Chief Stefani Wade, a theft call was reported to the Angelina County Sheriff's Office at 11:15 p.m. on Nov. 10. According to Deep East Texas Crime Stoppers, someone had stolen a fireworks stand from behind Coleman's Grocery in Zavalla. A deputy later found the trailer-mounted building near the end of Marions Ferry Road with the building's roof torn away and the fireworks, worth about $5,000, missing.
Surveillance video showed a man driving a four-door Dodge truck through the Coleman's parking lot and stopping to relieve himself at the store's car-wash stalls.
Wade said after video footage was released to the public by Crime Stoppers, several tips led to Byars.
Police obtained a warrant for Byars' arrest on Feb. 2, and he was booked in on the charge on Monday. He has posted a $5,000 bond.
