Man arrested for abandoning child in Angelina County

ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A man is in jail after officials say he left a 10-month child alone.

According to officials with the Angelina County Sheriff' s Office, on July 01, approximately at 8:00 p.m. deputies of the Angelina County Sheriff's Office responded to 8849 Highway 94 in reference to a welfare concern.

Dispatch advised that DPS Trooper Rusty Pitts had checked out with a subject running and the subject informed him that he was out walking for exercise but needed to get home because he had left his daughter there alone.

When questioned about his daughter's age he advised 10 months.

Trooper Pitts responded to the address and discovered the infant there alone.

Deputies with ACSO arrived and begun an investigation.

After speaking to the mother and the father, Jamoya D. Perry, it was determined that he had left the child and been gone between 35 minutes to an hour.

Jamoya was placed under arrest for abandoning a child under the age of 15 with intent to return, a state jail felony.

He was transported to the Angelina County Jail without incident. His bond has been set at $9,000.
