JASPER, TX (KTRE) - An elderly man was struck by a vehicle on Tuesday morning and the suspect left the scene.

Thomas Williamson,  71, of Kirbyville, had just been released from Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital when he was struck by a vehicle on U.S. Highway 190 at Marvin Hancock Drive around 5 a.m.

Police say Williamson was walking in the roadway when he was struck. He told police he believed he had been hit by an 18-wheeler, but police aren't sure what type of vehicle it actually was.

The incident is being investigated as a case of failure to stop and render aid. However, police say if the vehicle was, in fact, an 18-wheeler the driver may not have realized they hit someone.

Williamson suffered what appeared to be a hip or leg injury, and was taken back to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital.

Jasper Police are asking for any drivers that went through the intersection of Highway 190 West and Marvin Hancock Drive to check their vehicle for signs of damage.

If you have any information on the incident you are asked to contact Jasper police at 409-384-3471.
