TYLER COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - The Tyler County Commissioners Court has approved a resolution concerning a proposed meat processing facility.
Two commissioners and County Judge Jaques Blanchette voted to approve the resolution. One commissioner abstained from voting and another left the meeting before the vote was taken.
The resolution recognizes that more than 700 people have called Blanchette's office in opposition to the plant and five have expressed support.
The resolution also states residents and the court hold no legal power to stop a business from coming to the county.
Tyler County residents have objected to East Texas Packing Company LLC after rumors that a halal-style meat-packing company is coming to town.
The company would employ up to 200 and will be located north of Woodville in the Tyler County Industrial Park.
