(KTRE) - With an impending heat wave coming to the Piney Woods over the next several days, we have gone ahead and declared First Alert Weather Days from now through this weekend.
The triple digit heat expected this weekend has triggered numerous Excessive Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories covering much of our KTRE viewing area as some of the hottest weather in over three years will be invading our region in the days ahead.
Even though the air temperatures will more than likely top out at or slightly over the century mark by this weekend, it is the heat index or feels like temperatures that will make this heat dangerous for us.
With feels like temperatures in the 105-110 degree range from now through early next week, the heat will become dangerous, particularly in the afternoon hours when we reach the peak heating of the day.
With this type of heat in East Texas, heat-related illnesses will be possible over the next several days.
Therefore, please limit your time outdoors, especially from the midday to late afternoon hours. Drink plenty of Gatorade and/or water to replenish your thirst and stay properly hydrated. Seek the air conditioning as much as possible. If you have to be outdoors, take frequent breaks and seek shade whenever possible. And make sure you check on the kids and elderly, since they tend to be more susceptible to the heat.
The heat precautions are common sense, but it is important that they are top-of-mind for all of us so that everyone can be safe and beat the heat.
