DPS: Suspect injured in crash after high-speed chase from San Augustine to Sabine County

SABINE COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A high-speed chase that started in San Augustine County ended when the driver of the suspect vehicle drove off the road in Sabine County and crashed into trees Wednesday night.

According to a press release, the preliminary investigation shows that about 8 p.m., on Wednesday, the driver of a 2018 Buick SUV fled from a traffic stop on State Highway 21. San Augustine Police Department officers and San Augustine County Sheriff's Office deputies pursued the vehicle into Sabine County.

A few miles into Sabine County, the Buick drove off Highway 21 to the right near the Gasby-NZ Cemetery Road and hit multiple trees, the press release stated. The driver was injured in the crash.

The driver was identified as Demarcus Teel, 39, of Fort Worth, and a medical helicopter transported him to Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries, the press release stated.

The incident is still under investigation.
