Dan Rather Gives $2 Million to Alma Mater
Huntsville, Texas _ Former CBS anchorman Dan Rather is donating two million dollars to his alma mater.
Rather in 1953 graduated from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville with a bachelor's degree in journalism.
Officials today announced it's the largest single monetary gift in the Texas school's 127-year history.
The donation, made in the names of Rather and his wife, Jean, has been designated for scholarships and discretionary spending in the school's communications program.
Rather last year stepped down as CBS anchor. He's joined HDNet, a network for owners of high-definition sets, to do a news show this fall.
HDNET is operated by Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.
