Lone Star Legislative Summit

The Lone Star Legislative Summit remains in full swing. Thursday night an evening reception allowed local lawmakers to meet with state and federal lawmakers in a casual setting.   Earlier in the day at SFA, the first day of summit talks began.

Leading experts in the fields of homeland security, transport ion, public and higher education met. The Nacogdoches Chamber of Commerce event is a way of bringing Austin and Washington to East Texas. The chamber's community development vice chair, John Ruckel said,   " This is grass roots lobbying in its purest form. When you bring representatives from Washington D.C. And Austin to East Texas we're bringing them to our turf, so they can see our community, our health care facilities, our state university. They see all the good things and see our needs. "

On Friday rural economic issues will be addressed by Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples. U.S. Representative Louie Gohmert will provide a federal legislative update. Friday's event is at the Fredonia Hotel Convention Center beginning at 7:30 in the morning.
