The Federal Railroad Administration has an accident prediction model for railroad crossings. He says there are 53 crossings in Henderson County, and this one is ranked the most dangerous, yet there are other crossings that have arm guards on them, but the one in question does not.
The Smith County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with the Watkins-Logan Texas State Veterans home to hold a gift drive for residents.
“Having something for any special holiday, it means the world to these guys, it lets them know that they are not forgotten,” said Brian Wilson, the activities director at the home.
The house that was turned into MarTeres Tearoom was built in 1929. Owner Shan Mathis said the business was started 22 years ago by previous owners Teresa Stokes and Margaret Perk, and she bought it two years ago. Now, a fire has left her heartbroken.
“I’m standing in front of the Mayfair Building,” Warren said in a video posted to social media on Thursday. “You played here on Feb. 7, 1972, with Porter Waggoner. Do you remember this stage? This is the same stage you sang on.”
In what organizer’s say will be an annual holiday season event, Vikings will soon invade an East Texas venue. “So we are going to be doing everything Viking and Norse related. We’ll have traditional artisans coming from all over the country,” says event organizer Jim Stovall.
