Man arrested in connection with fatal Nacogdoches shooting
NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) -Active, picky, and into fashion, is how Jennifer Pleasant Horton, the mother of 19-year-old Jermiah Warren, described him.
“He’s busy, very sweet. Always said ‘yes ma’am, no ma’am’. Serious about his family, love him so much,” Horton said.
While her face lights up when she talks about him, there were also many tears that were shed.
Warren was found dead on April 28th near Eastwood Terrace Apartments in Nacogdoches. Alexis Johnson, one of his sisters, remembers the phone call with her grandmother.
“She was just like your brother, my grandbaby he’s gone. Just a lot of emotions, I just shut down; I was still in disbelief,” Johnson said.
Like Horton — Johnson remembers Warren the same way. All his family said he was protective, smart, and a basketball star.
He was also the youngest of four which meant he received special treatment, according to his sisters.
“He was so spoiled. There’s nothing you could tell my mama that he did, think she didn’t think he didn’t do,” Johnson said.
His older sister Azure Johnson said her brother’s death was hard to accept.
“It hurts my soul and sometimes I can’t sleep at night, I just want to know what happened to him,” Johnson said.
The family says there was a feeling of relief when they learned of the arrest Nacogdoches police made in connection to warren’s death
“Justice is going to serve itself most definitely,” Horton said.
Nacogdoches PD’s Sgt. Brett Ayers confirmed that 23-year-old Rakeem Rocquemore was arrested and is charged with Warren’s murder. An arrest affidavit claims Rocquemore fired the fatal shot while attempting to flee from the scene of another felony described only as deadly conduct.
But even with someone behind bars, Horton would like to warn parents to keep up with their children.
Nacogdoches police have arrested a man in connection with a murder, after the body of a 19-year-old was found behind an apartment complex.
According to a press release, police were called to Old Woden Road on April 28 about gunshots in the area. When they arrived, they said they found the body of Jermiah Jamarrea Warren, of Nacogdoches, in a wooded area.
On Friday, Rakeem Keshawn Rocquemore, 23, of Nacogdoches, was arrested and charged with murder. Nacogdoches Police Sergeant Brett Ayers confirmed his arrest is connected to Warren’s murder. Rocquemore was taken into custody in the 1100 block of South University Drive without incident.
An indictment says Rocquemore fired a gun “in the direction of an individual” causing Warren’s death. The document claims Rocquemore shot Warren while attempting to flee from the scene of another felony, described only as “deadly conduct.”
His bond has been set at $1,000,000.
