Laredo police arrest man following midnight threat at traffic light
LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - In the early morning hours of Jan. 5, just after midnight, law enforcement arrived at the intersection of Iturbide Street and Santa Ursula Avenue to investigate reports of a disturbance.
The complainant said he and his young son had come to a halt at a red light near the 1000 block of Santa Ursula when a silver 2019 Ford F-150 pulled alongside them.
The occupant of the passenger seat of the pickup truck, later identified as Jesus Montalvo, 47, initiated a verbal confrontation with the driver. Montalvo hurled profanities and directed aggressive language at the man, escalating the situation by issuing physical threats. Frightened and uncertain of the aggressor’s motivations — as they had no prior connection to Montalvo — the complainant grew increasingly concerned for both his safety and that of his son.
The situation intensified when Montalvo attempted to obstruct the complainant’s vehicle and moved toward the driver’s side window. He made a motion to strike the driver before retreating to the pickup truck. From there, Montalvo shouted a challenge to fight, using crude Spanish to provoke further conflict.
Officers tracked down and stopped the F-150 near the 800 block of Iturbide Street, where Montalvo was taken into custody. During processing at the Webb County Jail, facility staff discovered a small clear plastic bag containing about 0.8 gram of cocaine in Montalvo’s possession.
Montalvo now faces two charges: terroristic threat in a public place, a Class A misdemeanor, and possession of a controlled substance within a drug-free zone, a third-degree felony.
