Tropical rains could bring flooding to East Texas today
East Texas (KLTV/KTRE) - Good morning, East Texas! A First Alert Weather Day remains in effect today as the remnants of Tropical Storm Edouard slowly pushes northwest through Texas. This morning, pockets of heavy tropical rains will be possible, especially in Deep East Texas, so some extra time for your morning commute would not be a bad idea. Scattered rains will likely continue on and off throughout the morning and afternoon hours, leading to the chance for localized flooding across our southern and southwestern counties. A Flood Watch remains in effect through Thursday afternoon for some counties, so please avoid flood-prone areas if possible. While the remnants of Edouard continue to quickly weaken this morning, some breezy winds will remain possible today with some gusts reaching 20+ mph. Not everyone will receive rain today, though the extra cloud cover and breezy east-southeast winds will keep temperatures somewhat cooler in the 80s and lower 90s this afternoon. Rain coverage will continue tonight and tomorrow morning, and some additional pop-up showers and a few thunderstorms will be possible tomorrow in the afternoon heat. Skies will not totally dry out later this week, but rain chances will remain isolated Friday through Sunday with only a few pop-up showers or thunderstorms possible, mainly in the afternoon each day. As rain coverage drops, temperatures will climb back into the middle to upper 90s by the weekend, with heat indices likely still pushing well over 100°. Please keep a close eye on the First Alert Weather App today. We’ll keep you posted with the latest!
