Tyler Legacy routs Mesquite in homecoming win
Red Raiders close non-district schedule with 61-35 victory
TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - Tyler Legacy hosted Mesquite for homecoming, and the Red Raiders picked up their first win of the season, 61-35.
KLTV Sports Director Michael Coleman broke down the game on Red Zone Overtime. He praised the players for battling adversity early.
“What I was concerned about Kyle was once they were down seven zero after giving that ball up on their second touch, are they going to fold or what are they going to do? They they got rid of it. They had amnesia and would score on their next five possessions,” Coleman said. “Coach Bo and his crew did a fantastic job of game planning. They kept them in the game. The quarterback, the running backs and the linebackers were stout. And I think what they were able to do was dissect last week’s game film and saw wow, we did well, but we can do better. And tonight Mesquite found out.”
Turnovers swing momentum
The Red Raiders opened the game with the first possession, picking up first-down yardage on the ground with Jaylin Miles carrying the ball. Cason Gray completed a pass to Jakearian Harris, who broke away before a tackler jarred the ball loose. Mesquite recovered the fumble and scored a touchdown off the turnover.
Legacy answered on the ensuing possessions. Nehimijah Forge recovered a Mesquite fumble, giving the Red Raiders the ball back. Jaylin Miles scored his second touchdown of the game, and Legacy converted a two-point attempt to lead 16-7.
Red Raiders pull away
Legacy scored on five consecutive possessions, outscoring Mesquite 26-0 during that stretch. Bam White scored on a run to the left, making it 23-7. At that point in the game, Legacy had outscored Mesquite 23-0.
Miles finished with three touchdowns, including a 59-yard score. White also had an 82-yard kickoff return.
Legacy led by 27 points at halftime.
The final score was 61-35.
Legacy (1-2) hosts Rockwall Heath next week.
