Player Spotlight: Lindale’s QB David Lindig
LINDALE, Texas (KLTV) - This week’s Red Zone player spotlight is shining on Lindale High School’s quarterback David Lindig.
Lindig led the Eagles on a game-winning touchdown drive in a 49-46 win over Van in Week 3.
The winning drive
With 1:30 left in the game, Lindale took over at its own 10-yard line with one timeout remaining, needing a touchdown to win.
“Yeah, like we mentioned, 1:30 left in this game when they took over at their own 10-yard line, Coleman. I mean, they had to go to the length of the field with one timeout left. Needing a touchdown, and David Lindig operated the offense got down to the 32-yard line in Vandal territory. And then he took off, you know, he did his thing,” Red Zone Overtime commentator Kyle Owens said.
“I told myself going into that two minute situation like I told the guys before we went out on the field, let’s go win a ball game. And if you look back to last year’s game, it kind of ended the same way. I ran the ball and scored and won the game so I kind of had that same mindset. I had it in the back of my mind, I mean, if it happens I get this opportunity, I will take it. So that’s what I told myself,” Lindig said.
Halftime message
Lindale trailed 19-14 at halftime.
“Going in at halftime we were down I think 19-14 at the time, and I went out and told those guys I was like sit down. Be quiet. I wanna talk to you real quick. Let me talk to y’all. I told them like guys I know my guys, I know who I have on my team. I told him y’all are a resilient football team. We’ve done this time and time again,” Lindig said.
“He wanted to talk. Normally, I walk in and address the team. They’re all sitting there kind of waiting on me. But he wanted to talk to them and I love that just because you know they respect him he knows that they respect him, it’s very confident, but it’s a healthy confident ” Lindale head football coach Chris Cochran said.
Lindig is this week’s Red Zone Player Spotlight.
