Tyler Legacy awarded Red Zone game ball

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - Tyler Legacy High School football defeated Mesquite 61-35 in its homecoming game. Head coach Beau Trahan and his team are this week’s Red Zone game ball winner.

Trahan spoke with KLTV Sports Director Michael Coleman about the win.

Offense leads with run game

Trahan said the team did not panic after turnovers during the game.

“The kids played hard. Did a nice job of not panicking when we had to turn the ball over. Those things happen. We just got to make sure we take care of the football. Really proud of how the guys played. They flew around all night. Got a big win for our program,” Trahan said.

Legacy’s run game totaled 310 yards, with 290 yards coming in the first half, according to Trahan.

Trahan credited the offensive line for its performance after being challenged the previous week.

“The offensive line played outstanding. We really challenged them last week and they responded to the challenge. Couldn’t be more proud of those guys. They did a nice job of being physical and blocking on the perimeter. Wide receivers did a great job. We always say offensive line brings out the first downs, wide receivers bring the touchdowns. Really proud of our offense, proud of our entire team,” Trahan said.

Defense forces turnovers

Trahan also praised the defense, including defensive player Keshawn Dotson.

“Keshawn Dotson had a great game. After a couple weeks ago, I thought they really came out ready to play, more physical, tackled a little bit better. Still got some work to do in that area, but those guys created turnovers, takeaways, and we were able to separate. So proud of this team, full effort,” Trahan said.

Running back depth

Trahan said Legacy has depth at running back and plans to use multiple players throughout the season.

“We’ve got some running backs to use. We’ve got to use all of them because we need to take hits off those guys. I feel confident in all of our backs. We’re ready to ride them through the season,” Trahan said.
