Gilmer Buckeyes named Red Zone game ball winner

GILMER, Texas (KLTV) - The Gilmer Buckeyes are this week’s Red Zone game ball winner, following a win over Sunnyvale last week.

Gilmer Head Football Coach Alan Metzel was congratulated on the win during the segment.

Coach discusses team traits

Asked about the traits he likes in the team as it has developed, Metzel pointed to the team’s ability to handle adversity.

“The ability to handle adversity, they all come together as one,” Metzel said. “The motto is all in and these guys are doing that right now.”

Metzel said the team’s non-district schedule served a purpose.

“Absolutely, play some great teams, they challenge us to the limit, we’ll overcome it,” Metzel said.

Team enters bye week

Gilmer enters a bye week. Metzel said the team will not be using the time off to relax.

“Not at all, a lot of work to do, a lot of things to tighten up,” Metzel said. “Got to be better every single day.”
