On February 1, 1999, a foundation in James Byrd Jr's name was created by his family. The James Byrd Jr. Family Foundation for Racial Healing is set up to eradicate prejudice.
All funds contributed to the foundation will be used to pay for messages of ethnic tolerance to schools and other groups across Texas.
One of Byrd's 6 sisters chairs the group. She said she hopes something positive can result from her brother's death.
