DIBOLL, Texas (KTRE) - Since last Thursday the community of Diboll has been trying to capture a duck, who they are referring to as “she.”

She has a fishing line wrapped around her left foot, which city manager Jason Arnold believes could have come from a fishing lure that was stuck in the Old Orchard Park pond.

“She walks with a limp, she swims a little awkwardly, but she can get away pretty quickly and she flies perfectly,” Arnold said.

He said she doesn’t show any signs of pain, just discomfort, but he does believe the issue has made her leery of the help.

“She just doesn’t know that we’re there to help so it’s taking a little longer to get out hands on her,” Arnold said.

But they aren’t giving up yet. Arnold said capturing her and removing the line is a high priority for the city and for many people in the community.

“We are doing everything we can; we want to keep the ducks and all the wildlife, we want to make sure that they’re cared for and that they’re being looked after,” Arnold said.

The situation could be seen as a cautionary tale. Arnold wants to reminds people to leave any parks or outdoor areas as they were, before leaving.

“We just ask that they do it safely and respectably. Whether it’s trash from a birthday party or fishing, we just ask that you clean it up,” Arnold said.

He said their next plan involves a net, and if that doesn’t work they will explore other methods.
