1 dead, 1 arrested after overnight shooting in Lufkin

LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - One man is dead and another arrested following a shooting on Bowles Street in Lufkin.

DeMarcus Jones, 49, is charged with murder in the death of Tyrone Williams, 55.

According to the Lufkin Police Department, around 10:40 p.m. Thursday, police responded to the 200 block of Bowles Street on reports of shots fired.

Officers found Williams, who had been shot multiple times. Life saving measures were attempted but were unsuccessful. Williams died on the scene.

According to a press release, witnesses identified Jones as the shooter. They said the two were arguing and it escalated into a fight. Police say a gun was found nearby and is the same caliber as the shell casings found in the area.

Jones was not at the scene when officers arrived, but witnesses knew where he had been staying, the press release states. Police went to an apartment in the 500 block of Charlton Street and saw Jones leave. They were able to arrest him.
