Whitehouse takes Week 1 Game Ball following win over Chapel Hill
WHITEHOUSE, Texas (KLTV) - The Whitehouse Wildcats have been named the Red Zone game ball winner for week one, following the team’s win over Chapel Hill.
The Wildcats opened the season with the 37-14 win at Wildcat Stadium in front of a home crowd on Thursday night.
Coach credits offseason work
Gilchrist said the team’s preparation began in January.
“I think it started in January and they laid the foundation, we saw the fruits of their labor pay off,” Gilchrist said.
Gilchrist said the crowd reaction after the win was a positive sign, but said there is more work ahead for him and his staff.
“The community is one of the main reasons I want to come here,” Gilchrist said. He said he brought his wife and two sons to the game Thursday night.
“It was awesome seeing them Thursday night getting excited,” Gilchrist said. He said he hopes to see them at the game against the Lindale Eagles on Friday.
Gilchrist describes hiring process
Gilchrist said that before taking the job, he looked at the roster and the community.
“I knew about the town the community... you know about Patrick Mahomes, the freshman class and the sophomores were real talented but I knew this is the place I wanted to be,” Gilchrist said. He said the town reminded him of home and was a good fit for his family.
Next up: Lindale Eagles
Gilchrist said White House’s next opponent, the Lindale Eagles, will be a tough matchup.
“They’re number two for a reason, they’re really well coached they’ve got great kids and play really hard,” Gilchrist said. “And they are super talented.”
