Clara Strange
Clara Strange, 77, of Lufkin, was born November 6, 1930, in Pollok, Texas, the daughter of the late Odie Lee (Lumpkin) and Lawrence L. Jones. She passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2008, in a Lufkin hospital.
Mrs. Strange was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was retired from the Lufkin State School. She was an avid quilter, loved to cook, and was a very outgoing person. Mrs. Strange was a member of First Baptist Church in Lancewood, and had resided in the Lufkin area most of her life.
Survivors include her grandsons, Samuel Keith Fernandez and Eloy Fernandez, Jr., both of Lufkin; granddaughter, Marisa Fernandez of Wichita, Kansas; great grandchildren, Samuel Kane of Lufkin, Sarai, Hector and Elijah Lugo of Wichita, Kansas; sisters, Eve Krell of Huntington and Laura Mae Oates of Lufkin; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and other family members.
Mrs. Strange was preceded in death by her husband, A.C. Strange; daughters, Betty Fernandez and Sheila Woods; sisters, Cleora Smith, Delores Irwin and Leveta Crager; and brothers, Carl Jones, Luther Jones, James Roy Jones and Marvin Jones.
Pallbearers will be Dan Foster, James Farrell, Royce Mangrum, Joe Hamb, Jason Swallows and Clay Hathorn.
Services for Mrs. Strange will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 6, 2008, in the First Baptist Church of Lancewood with Reverend Brad Forrest officiating. Interment will follow in the Aldredge Cemetery.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Lancewood.
