The City of Longview is open to suggestions to make Fourth Street safe. So, they organized an open house where residents like Margo Macaulay could talk about it directly with Longview Metropolitan Planning Manager Bryan McBride.
“It’s past needing help because there’s just too much congestion. And people take risks trying to go in and out of the parking lots. So, it’s very difficult. I try to avoid it,” Macaulay said.
Longview ISD and Tyler ISD each received a B while Lufkin and Nacogdoches got a C.
“Looking at the aggregate, I’m proud of our students, parents, teachers, and campus principals for the way they performed in the 2025-2026 school year,” said Tyler ISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Marty Crawford. “The characteristics of our school district are unlike any other in East Texas, and we are competing well against our state peers.”

Trinity County commissioners approved a preliminary 2027 budget during a special session Thursday, cutting funding across every county department to meet an Aug. 15 filing deadline.
The Texas Education Agency released its 2026 A-F accountability ratings Thursday for public school districts and campuses across the state, with several East Texas districts earning high marks and at least one sliding back from last year.
The TEA rated 1,202 districts and 9,105 campuses statewide. The ratings are based on three categories: student achievement, school progress and closing learning gaps.
