Lubbock police arrest man on aggravated assault charge in investigation involving injured infant

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - A 23-year-old man is charged with aggravated assault of a family member, causing serious bodily injury, after an infant was hospitalized with severe head trauma.

Lubbock police arrested Zacharias Johnson after they were called to Covenant Children’s for a report of an infant with severe head trauma.

According to court documents, Johnson told investigators he threw the baby up in the air repeatedly in an attempt to get rid of the hiccups to the point where the child began seizing.

He claims the infant hit her head when she fell off of a bed.

The child had to have surgery to stop a brain bleed and reduce swelling.

Lubbock police arrested him Friday. He remains in the Lubbock County Detention Center on $250,000 bond.
